I Don’t Have a WordPress Site. Do I Need Maintenance?

A website that receives attention, gets attention. That has always been our philosophy. WordPress sites need maintenance that is a fact. But what if you don’t have a WordPress site? Should you still be doing maintenance or having someone do maintenance? The answer is yes. But the frequency and types of maintenance activities will change.

What is Website Maintenance?

Short answer. Anything you need to do to keep your website up-to-date. Here is a more detailed look at website maintenance.

Things we do as maintenance can involve:

  • Software updates
  • Security checks
  • SEO checks and updates
  • Content updates
  • Adding features
  • Performance – like speed and mobile
  • DNS or domain record updates

Based on what you used to build your website you could need help with all of these or maybe one or two.

CMS Sites, Frameworks or Platforms All Need Maintenance.

At Cybervise, the majority of our clients use the WordPress platform. But we can do maintenance on many platforms. Here are some examples of other platforms potential clients brought us to look at.

Wix.com

As far as hosting, software updates and security, your Wix account handles most of that for you. Maintenance would focus around the content and keeping it updated. We actually have a Website Rescue that started out as a Wix Maintenance request. If you wanted help with your Wix site, it would be to help you get content posted faster. SEO services could help a Wix site, but you would are limited to content strategy. A webmaster would not be able to do technical improvements on a website.

Shopify

Maintenance requests for Shopify primarily involve getting new content or product posted on the site. One of the major requests we get is for help with styling. A webmaster does have the ability to add custom style code to a Shopify site. There are a few routine checks to perform on a monthly basis. SEO Services can also benefit a Shopify site. Having a website maintenance plan would we worthwhile with a Shopify site.

Webflow

Webflow sites we have reviewed were hosted at Webflow.com. If this is true, all of the security, backups and software updates are part of your account at Webflow. Maintenance requests were to help post new pages and update current content. SEO services were also included in these requests and we do have more access to optimize code. A maintenance plan would work well for a Webflow site. Especially if you make frequent changes.

React Native

Owners choose React because of its ability to connect website and mobile apps. From what we have seen, sites built on this platform are very custom. Lots of moving parts, lots of software updates. The React framework is maintenance intensive. You do not want to wait on maintenance for this site. I would make sure you have someone looking at it monthly at a minimum. We have requests for maintenance on React because of pricing. If you research online, maintenance plans for React sites are pricey. To keep costs down, the best thing would be to work with the person who built it and is most familiar with the code. React site owners will want to be on a maintenance plan.
